    • Wolfram Alpha
A great resource for checking the answers to maths problems
    • Travels in a Mathematical World
A weekly podcast, with accompanying notes, from the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications. Interviews with mathematicians and round-ups of maths in the news. Excellent. (I particularly recommend Episode 48.)
    • Number gossip
Enter a number and it'll tell you everything you wanted to know about it but were afraid to ask!
    • Sixty symbols
Fantastic site from the University of Nottingham with short videos about physics and astronomy
    • The Guardian University Guide
Includes rankings and detailed information for each university and course
    • The Sunday Times University Guide
Another analysis of universities and their rankings
    • Calculators allowed in A level exams
Schools often give the wrong advice on this
  • In the news

    • Seafront hoopla stall owners convicted of conning punters
How statistics was used to prove a fairground game was virtually impossible to win
    • Universities reject A-level grades obtained in resits
A number of universities are not considering grades from candidates who have retaken modules
    • Teachers 'failing to help pupils pick correct A-levels'
I see a lot of this. In particular, students wanting to study maths, engineering, physics and even economics should all consider Further Maths
    • Clearing agony as students face fierce competition for university places
Why it's even more important to work hard and get A grades. (Remember that almost half of A level Mathematics candidates get an A or and A*)
